SUMMARY:Test your skills: Solving Biomaterials Challenges Proposed by Medical Experts
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered if your knowledge can translate into problem solving skills?  This unique activity brings together students from EELISA partner institutions to tackle real-world challenges in the field of biomaterials. Designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative thinking, the initiative is integrated into undergraduate biomaterials and bioengineering courses at leading universities, including Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest (PB). Guided by expert instructors and tutors from UPM, PB, and Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (SSSA), participants will engage in a transformative learning experience that combines technical knowledge with entrepreneurial skills.\nThe activity is open to students from all EELISA partner institutions and will be integrated into biomaterials courses at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) across three bachelor’s degree programs, as well as a bioengineering course at POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest (PB). The teaching team will include professors and tutors from UPM, POLITEHNICA Bucharest, and Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (SSSA).\nParticipating teams, composed of five students from diverse academic and institutional backgrounds, will select a challenge related to biomaterials from a list of proposed topics. They will collaborate to develop innovative solutions, supported by sessions led by experts and professionals. These sessions will cover five key areas: entrepreneurship, medical device regulation, material selection, product costing, and manufacturing processes. Each team will be tasked with formulating an entrepreneurial strategy, designing a scientific and technical solution, defining manufacturing and characterization methods, and addressing regulatory requirements and cost analysis for their proposed solution. A dedicated tutor will guide each team throughout the process.\nWHEN\nFrom February 1st to May 31st\nWHERE\nOnline and on-site.\nOn-site final activity (not mandatory) at Calle Profesor Aranguren, 3. Ciudad Universitaria. Madrid.\nDepartment of Materials Science. ETSI de Caminos, Canales y Puertos. Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Spain.\n\nREGISTER HERE\nDeadline: 15th of January\n\n\nThis activity is organized by the EELISA Community Advanced Materials for a Sustainable Future. To learn more about their evets and other EELISA Communities, please visit the EELISA Community Platform.\n \n
