Innovation in Action: Matteo is CEO & Co-founder of INTA

Q. What is your purpose that motivates you to be/become an #EEnovator? A. It’s undoubtedly the joy and satisfaction of seeing a product of research that I worked on with passion become something people actually use. In my case, we’re talking about general practitioners, but it could be anyone. The most exciting part is knowing that you’re working on an object, a service, that brings real benefit to someone.

Q. What is innovation for you?
A. For me, innovation means harnessing the full potential of an idea, a new technology or a project and turning it into a tangible opportunity, bringing the promise of a new concept down to earth without wasting a single bit of its potential.

Q. What have you learned on your innovation journey so far?

A. I start from the premise, simple but always true, that you never stop learning; it’s a continuous journey. In my specific case, having founded a company based on a doctoral project, I had to learn how to run a business. I was a researcher and then also became an entrepreneur. A huge shift. I had to learn to engage with many different stakeholders: investors, clients, public institutions… It’s a world you come to understand over time.

Another key aspect is human resources. One thing I care deeply about is that INTA has zero gender gap. In fact, quite the opposite. Women in our company outnumber the national average of women in STEM roles by two to one, a fact we take great pride in, and one that undeniably fuels our company’s potential.

Q. What do you wish for the Innovation Ecosystem of the future?
A. I hope to see more investors, especially public and institutional ones, willing to take risks. In my view, the role of institutional investors should be exactly that: to act as market shapers, as pioneers, and then draw private players into potentially high-risk, high-reward ventures like ours.
