READ BEFORE YOU BEGIN!

Attendance to these courses will give you credits that will help you obtain the EELISA Supplement. If you want these courses to be also accepted as credits for your school year, you need to proceed as-is:

  • Apply for the course at the host institution
  • Get an acceptance letter from the person in charge of the course
  • Show the acceptance letter to the dean of studies (international affairs) of your home institution
  • Get approval from your dean of studies
  • Get a certificate of attendance and validation of the course at the host institution at the end of the course (after examination, if this applies)
  • Transmit the certificate to the dean of studies at your home institution.

Please, note that the dates for some of the courses are based on those from the academic year 2020-2021. Issues on China – Innovation, Society and Culture

WHAT

The Seasonal School will explore Chinese innovation ecosystem, geopolitical and international relations, and legal systems to ensure disciplinary and intellectual diversity, in order to guarantee the pluralism of disciplinary and intellectual perspectives.
Since China has become a more assertive actor in the international order, shaping its own system of alliances and building new regional and commercial architecture, the Seasonal School will allow European and Italian scholars “outside China” to examine the evolution, prospects, and challenges of this change.
The Seasonal School also offers a wide range of cultural, social, and networking events in Pisa in collaboration with some of the city’s cultural realities (such as Cinema Arsenale, Libreria Ghibellina, and others): book presentations, successful Sino Italian company case studies, stories of scholars, academics, and passionate people.
The Seasonal School honours Filippo Nicosia, former Italian Consul General in Chongqing.

Machine Elements 1

WHAT

This subject is dedicated to teach the basic principles, methods and problems of machine design. The aim is to prepare for solving easy construction problems individually: to create structural, mechanical and mathematical models, recognize the failure and damage modes, estimate the load and limit conditions, perform sizing and checking processes, especially on different types of joints, tubes and pipes, gaskets, springs, shafts. The course is directed towards future engineers who are interested in the mechanical design and its fundamentals and principles. The skill of students in solution of real engineering problems will be improved by discussing solved machine component related problems and design projects. 4 hours/4 credits.

Machine Learning in Architectural Design

WHAT

Course Description: An overview of machine learning tools and techniques that can be used in architectural design process, applying machine learning workflows as generative experiments, selecting and using some of the Artificial Intelligence tools depending on the needs of architectural design, collecting and preparing the dataset in groups, selecting and training some machine learning model and finally generating designs using the created model. Course Objectives: Acquire an overview of machine learning models and learn the potentials and weaknesses of each model. Learn how deep neural networks work and how to use them in architectural context. Obtain the skill of selecting the suitable machine learning platform and the skill of adapting the platform for the design purpose. Practice on obtaining a dataset, cleaning and structuring it and converting it to a machine interpretable entities to be used in generative process. Create architectural designs by using machine learning approaches.

Management and Marketing

WHAT

The aim of the course is to give the participants an introduction to the fields of management and marketing, to understand their basic concepts, and to find out the specifics and possibilities of
combining these two areas within the organization. The subject would like to provide better understanding of the features of management functions, the characteristics, rules and life cycle of
organizations, with the specificities of these factors. Another goal is to understand the essence of the information available to marketers, to provide guidance on the processing and analysis of data available from consumers and the business market. Students will also gain insight into market segmentation, positioning and analysis of market competitors, combining management tools with the key features of corporate marketing strategy. During the discussion of the topics we refer to the applicable management and marketing methods based on their impact on the organization’s efficiency.

Management Information Systems

WHAT

Generally, information and communication technologies (ICT) are approached as „black boxes” inside of which is not really accessible for other business areas. This is the reason why the main objective of this course is to familiarize students with what is happening inside the “black box” and show how ICT is managed in businesses. We put a strong emphasis on demonstrating how companies increase their competitiveness with ICT solutions and how they can improve efficiency in their business functions. We introduce contemporary technology innovations and those mechanisms which drive new business models, organizational change, and the transformation of managerial decisions.

During the course, on the one hand, the conceptual foundations of information management are discussed. On the other several cases, examples and illustrations are presented how digital transformation works in practice. Students are enabled by several assignments to indulge in their own concrete cases, both to study digital transformation and to design new business models or strategies.
