ANIMA – ANImatronics and Mechatronic Artificial organs
The ANIMA (Animatronics and Mechatronic Artificial Organs) Seasonal School blends the tradition of animatronics with cutting-edge robotics and biorobotics, with applications ranging from medical training to social and entertainment robotics. It offers a unique interdisciplinary experience, combining technical knowledge with skills like teamwork, critical thinking, and independent design.
Students learn the fundamentals of robotics, biomechanics, and biomimetics, while gaining hands-on experience in programming microcontrollers, working with sensors and actuators, and using digital fabrication and silicone casting techniques. They apply this knowledge by building an animatronic prototype in small teams, integrating mechanical, electronic, and aesthetic components.
The programme follows a hands-on approach, balancing concise lectures with practical lab work. Throughout the course, students collaborate, make design decisions, and refine their projects with guidance from instructors, culminating in a final prototype and presentation that showcases both technical achievement and creative design.
