The under-representation of women in science is still a current societal issue that needs to be tackled, especially in the field of natural sciences. With the main goal of increasing the visibility of female researchers and closing the gaps and inequalities that still persist in academia, the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität (FAU) Erlangen-Nürnberg developed the idea of organizing a “Women in Science” symposium that can foster an international network of women, encouraging open dialogue, and inspiring future women in science.

This would be the 2nd symposium around women in the field of science organized by FAU, that already hosted a three-day event in 2018 in which early-career and leading female scientists from all over the world were invited to share their experiences on the topic. FAU’s 1st symposium was awarded the Renate-Wittern-Sterzel Prize in 2019 for its innovative approach to promoting equal opportunities for women by the Office of Gender and Diversity of the university. EELISA Travel Awards

In addition, participants whose abstracts have been accepted for poster presentations or flash talks at the 2nd Erlangen Women in Science Symposium 2023 will be eligible for the EELISA Travel Award, a special price that will provide to those elected accommodation (hotel incl. breakfast) and travel cost support (means of travel for arrival and departure). 

Interested applicants are required to send an e-mail indicating their interest in a Travel Award to dcp-womeninscience@fau.de, after submitting their abstract latest by April 16, 2023. Award recipients will be selected based on the merit of their submitted abstracts and the organizers’ final decision. Winners will be notified via email before April 22, 2023.
