the role of circular waste management and waste-to-resource systems within the broader transition towards sustainable, resource-efficient and climate-resilient university campuses is the third of 3 workshops and 2 onsite events organised in the frame of the Joint Call activity Circular Campus 2030. This activityis organised by POLITEHNICA Bucharest and aims to  introduce participants to the principles of circular resource flows and to explore how campuses can evolve from linear consumption models towards integrated systems based on prevention, recovery, reuse and circular valorisation of materials and resources.

Within the context of the CIRCULAR CAMPUS 2030 initiative, waste will be approached not only as an environmental challenge, but also as a potential resource stream capable of generating new forms of value, reducing resource dependency and supporting circular urban metabolism strategies. University campuses will be analysed as micro-urban ecosystems where material flows, consumption patterns, infrastructure systems and spatial organisation are strongly interconnected.

The workshop will introduce key concepts related to:

– Circular waste management principles

– Waste hierarchy and prevention strategies

– Waste-to-resource approaches

– Material recovery and reuse systems

– Circular resource flows within campus environments

– Integration between waste management, energy efficiency and sustainability objectives

– Behavioural and governance dimensions influencing circular transition processes

Special attention will also be given to the relationship between waste systems and spatial organisation, including how campus infrastructure, public spaces and user behaviour can influence resource efficiency and circularity performance.
