EELISA Model United Nations Academy Vienna 2026
Are you interested in international politics, diplomacy, negotiation, or the work of the United Nations? Do you want to meet students from across Europe, strengthen your public speaking skills, and experience multilateral diplomacy first-hand in one of the UN capitals of the world?
Then apply now for the EELISA Model United Nations Academy | Vienna Edition 2026!
Organised within the EELISA European University Alliance, the EELISA Model UN Academy combines an online preparatory programme with a week-long, in-person study trip to Vienna, Austria, where participants will engage firsthand with the world of international diplomacy and the United Nations.
The Academy is open to students from all disciplines and study backgrounds. While students from political science, international relations, law, economics, and business are warmly invited, the Academy specifically also encourages applications from students in STEM subjects such as engineering, natural sciences, computer science, and environmental sciences. No previous ModelUN experience is required.
Throughout the Academy, students will gain practical experience in public speaking, negotiation, rhetoric, intercultural communication, diplomatic conduct, teamwork, and policy-making. The Academy further introduces students to the United Nations system, the Rules of Procedure used in Model UN conferences, and the Vienna-based UN organisations working on topics such as nuclear science and technology, non-proliferation and disarmament, outer space, and environmental protection.
The Academy consists of two parts:
Preparatory Programme (Online/Hybrid)
– Kick-off Meeting: 03 June 2026 (online only)
– 1st Training Weekend: 13–14 June 2026 (hybrid)
– 2nd Training Weekend: 18–19 July 2026 (hybrid)
During the preparatory phase, students will attend interactive seminars, workshops, negotiation and speech trainings, and collaborative group activities with students from across the EELISA network and beyond
In-Person Mobility to Vienna
– Study trip incl. MUN conference in Vienna: 02–08 August 2026 (on site)
The study trip to Vienna includes participation in a Model UN conference, workshops, expert talks, and mission briefings with professionals working in and around the United Nations system and international diplomacy. Please note that while the Academy is open to students from both EELISA and non-EELISA universities, only students enrolled in one of the EELISA partner universities are eligible for funding.
The Academy awards 5 ECTS credits upon successful completion. Assessment includes mandatory attendance both online and in-person, active participation, group presentations, short media outputs, and a reflective portfolio.
The EELISA Model UN Academy is more than just an academic seminar: it is an opportunity to become part of a growing European-wide network of internationally minded students who want to actively engage with global challenges and international cooperation. Students will not only gain valuable academic and professional skills, but also build lasting international friendships and networks across the EELISA alliance.
Whether you are already passionate about diplomacy and international affairs or completely new to the world of the United Nations, the Academy offers an accessible introduction to multilateral diplomacy in practice for everyone.
Join us in Vienna and experience diplomacy beyond the seminar room.
