
EELISA roundtable on Challenges and Opportunities for Minority Researchers
What barriers do minority researchers face, and how can they overcome the challenges that affect their professional careers?
The EELISA Roundtable on Challenges and Opportunities for Minority Researchers brings together representatives from academia and external stakeholders to discuss these challenges and identify solutions that foster more inclusive and equitable research environments.
Over the course of thematic discussions, participants will explore issues related to access to research careers, career development and progression, recognition, and institutional support. The roundtable aims to promote dialogue, share good practices, and develop recommendations that help create a more diverse, inclusive, and supportive research ecosystem for minority researchers.
MEET THE PANEL
Andrijana Bakračević
PhD candidate ín International Public Law at the University of Belgrade/Serbia and at Friedrich-Alexander-Universitä
She is a legal researcher, consultant, and Ph.D. candidate specializing in International Law and Human Rights. She has served as a Senior Advisor for the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection in Serbia and has worked extensively as a consultant for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) focusing on migration and asylum management. She is also the founder and chief editor of International Law Watch, a non-profit legal news portal.


Azhar Rahali
Architect and PhD candidate in Architectural Engineering at BME, specializing in architecture, interior design, and urban planning
With an academic background spanning Tunisia and Hungary, she combines strong expertise in conceptual design, functional planning, and architectural detailing with a passion for creating high-quality, human-centered spaces. She holds degrees in Architecture and Urban Planning from National School of Architecture and Urbanism and a Master’s in Architecture from Ybl Miklós Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering. Her professional experience includes architectural both public and private sectors in Tunisia, where she contributed to design development and urban projects
Anca Mihalache
Project Officer & University Lecturer for the Université PSL University and EELISA
Anca Mihalache works as a Project Officer for the PSL University and the EELISA Alliance and she is equally a university lecturer. She holds a PhD in Philosophy, obtained at the Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University in Paris, and an MA obtained at the Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS Ulm). Her broader interests focus on the role of education and research in contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.


Tommaso Andreussi
Professor of Aerospace Engineering at Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, Institute of Mechanical Intelligence
He leads research and development activities in space propulsion, space systems, rarefied fluid dynamics, and plasma technologies, with a strong focus on advancing innovative solutions for future space transportation. Since 2025, he has been the Principal Investigator of the European Research Council (ERC) Proof-of-Concept project BRIDGE – Bridging Research and Industry for the Development of Ground-breaking Air-breathing Electric Propulsion, supporting the translation of pioneering research into industrial applications.
Othmane Bourekkadi
PhD researcher in Private Law at Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University (USMBA) of Fez, Morocco
He is currently undertaking an academic exchange at Friedrich-Alexander-Universitä

MEET THE MODERATOR

Dr. Magda Luthay, Head of the Office of Equality and Diversity at FAU
Dr. Magda Luthay holds a degree in Middle Eastern Studies and Modern History from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) in Germany. Her doctoral thesis deals with the Implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) in the United Arab Emirates.
The FAU Office of Equality and Diversity is the central institution for the conceptualisation und implementation of the FAU gender equality and diversity strategy. This includes implementing different strategies at five faculties to increase the number of female academics in research and teaching as well as in academic top positions, especially in the field of STEM. In addition, Magda Luthay has a long-term working experience in the media business as a journalist.
