On Tuesday, December 8, the 2nd panel debate of United Universities of Europe took place on Youtube under the topic “Vocations and Competencies in the Age of European Universities”.
EELISA was represented by Thibaut Skrzypek (École des Ponts ParisTech), along with panelists Nadine Shovakar (EDUC, Universität Potsdam, Project Manager), Katrine Molad Hansen (ARQUS, Universitetet i Bergen, Local Alliance Coordinator) and Magdalena Sikorska, (EUNICE, Politechnika Poznańska, International Education Coordinator).
During the first part of the conversation, the panelists discussed how multilateral scientific cooperation is shaping professions of the operational officers and how their professions have evolved. This was an opportunity to present the ways in which EELISA is working to contribute to the construction of a new European Engineering Degree.
In the second half of the talk, Mr. van der Hijden (independent advisor and former Senior Policy Official at DG Research and Innovation at the European Commission) explained how European Universities Alliances will foster high-potential career skills in member institutions across the continent. Mrs Feichtner, Vice President for Internationalisation in Bremen, pointed to the great chances in the university networks for academics and employers alike – creating a competitive international scientific education, as well as attractive career paths and staff journeys across the alliances. Her counterpart, Mr. Niehoff, Policy Officer at the European Commission, provided political context about the role of higher education institutions in providing skills for the green and digital transformation, the EU transformation agenda for HEI, the experience from the Labour Market Relevance and Outcome Partnerships and how all this translates into the context of the European University Alliances.
The next discussion will take place in January 2021. It will focus on digital campuses. A new opportunity for testimonials and sharing of practices for European university alliances and a subject for which EELISA has great ambitions.
