This is no secret: EELISA aims to “define and implement a common model of European engineer rooted in society” – to foster a new generation of professionals who are committed and capable of understanding and facing real-world challenges. And this mission implies offering an innovative educational path and support network capable to prompt unprecedented knowledge exchanges and multidisciplinary experiences.
We are also inspired by the statement “Vision for a new European Education Area”, which emphasizes that the concrete steps and initiatives launched by European Universities “should work on better the connection of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)”.
Science, technology, and arts have worked alongside all through History. From great minds like Leonardo DaVinci, who managed to excel in all fields to the invention of the cinematographer by Lumière brothers, to the many artists who accompanied scientists in order to draw their discoveries. The result of combining these disciplines has always led to amazing developments and great progress.
Nowadays, scientists rarely need an artist to draw their discoveries however, pictures and storytelling help them spread their knowledge and accomplishments to wider audiences. And in return, arts, such as literature or cinema are key to raising public awareness and inspiring revolutionary tech solutions.
And this idea has been part of EELISA for a while now. On March 2021, we launched the EELISA Science Fiction Contest & Lecture Series – an initiative that gave the opportunity to students from all around the world to blend their scientific and technical knowledge with speculative literature with amazing results.
The time has come for us to launch EELISA Loves Arts! Campaign. From communication and social media content that gives the spotlight to the accomplishments of STEM/SSH & Arts endeavors; to the development of workshops that widen traditional disciplinary skills to tech teachers/students; to the collaboration with cultural organizations and events that share the same vision and values of our alliance.
Let your artistic self flow and do not miss the opportunity to get involved!
